externalizing my inner apocalypse I began writing Apocalypse Rodeo in 2011, inspired by the worst decade of my life. I wrote to recover from trauma that felt unsurvivable, and I wrote it into fiction to maintain a safe distance from the material. In April 2026 I was selected to participate in Kripalu’s Activist and Artist in Residence program, a retreat dedicated to rest, reflection and holistic self-renewal. This recognition affirms my enduring commitment to teaching and practicing creative writing as a tool for personal transformation and social justice activism. During my stay I focused on the final chapters of my memoir, Ghost Stories: Writing to Heal , while immersing myself in the restorative atmosphere of Kripalu.
